PhotoIn the early 1900's brothers Max and Herman Wien were in the ice business with one horse and wagon which eventually led to the inception of the funeral business in those days, because ice played such an important part in the health aspect of conducting funerals. Because of a plague and voluminous deaths, those persons with horse and wagons were encouraged to get funeral director's licenses.

The Wien’s eventually opened Wien and Wien Chapels on Jersey Avenue in Jersey City. Herman Wien is pictured atop the horse drawn hearse in the picture above.

In 1929 Harry and Arthur Wien, who were sons of Herman, took over the family business as it is known today and is operated as Wien & Wien, Inc. Memorial Chapels in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Musicant's Jewish Memorial Chapel was founded in the late forties by David Musicant and merged with Gutterman's Inc. of Jersey City in the seventies and became Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors as it is now known.

David Musicant was joined by his wife Edna, in the late seventies, when she retired from the florist business in Teaneck after forty years. Edna served as a liaison to the Jewish Community and was responsible for designing the live flower garden, which is the mantel piece of the new chapel, which seats about 300 people.
Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors is now managed and operated by Alan Musicant, the son of David and Edna.
Wien & Wien inc. Memorial Chapels and Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors now share the same facility at 402 Park Street, Hackensack, New Jersey.

The Musicant, Wien and Gutterman families have a long philanthropic history of service to the Jewish Communities of Bergen and Hudson counties, which continues to this day.

Not dealing with death on a daily basis, people do not realize that there is a "normal" process in handling an innumerable amount of details.
At Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors / Wien & Wien Inc. Memorial Chapels we pride ourselves on having many licensed Jewish Funeral Directors and Jewish support staff to serve the Jewish Community in their time of need.
We most recently welcomed Martin D. Kasdan to our Hackensack staff. Marty was formerly affiliated with Riverside Chapels in NYC and Schwartz Brother/Jeffer Memorial Chapels in Queens. The Kasdan family has a long distinguished history of providing meaningful Jewish funeral service to the NJ/NY metropolitan area.

We have also established a relationship with representatives who specifically provide transfer of Jewish remains to Israel as expeditiously as Jewish law permits.
This staff is dedicated in helping you to cohesively orchestrate the last wishes of your loved one in a timely and dignified manner and offer the services of Mr. Ron Bloom who is a licensed funeral director and our pre-need specialist, dedicated to serving you in this area.

By making our wishes known in advance, we are giving two important gifts. The first is to our selves -- the gift of assuring our funeral will be conducted as per our wishes. The second is to our loved ones – we give them the gift of not having to make those choices for us as they THOUGHT, we would have wanted, but were never sure.

The reputation and goodwill of Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors and Wien & Wien Inc. Memorial Chapels has been carefully stitched together over these past 100 years. During this period of time we have earned a reputation for fairness, honesty and sensitivity to special secular and religious needs, and professionalism.
